Data Logging

Data logger is an electronic device that records data over time and is equipped with sensors or other instrument. During ict class with our instructor, Miss Suzi, we get the experience on conducting experiment by using data logger. It was very interesting since we rarely use the data logger device in our laboratory practical session. We were excited to try this  and try doing experiment useing it. During this time, our class was divided into 4 groups and there will be 5 to 6 persons in a group. One person from each group will be the subject in the experiment where we will measure temperature change and humidity from her. In this experiment, we use data logger with heat and humidity sensor. There are 3 parts of this experiment where the first 5 minutes the subject hold temperature sensor and humidity sensor was just put on the table, the second part is where hand is covered with plastic and now, temperature sensor and humidity sensor was inserted together in the plastic. To make sure that no heat escape from the plastic, we use sellotape and attach the plastic to the hand so that no heat will escape. And the last part on this experiment was that the plastic covering hand was removed and the temperature and humidity was measured.

Experiment using data logger

The interesting part by using data logger was that the data was automatically recorded by the data logging device and the information can be translated to graph by the software that comes together with data logging device. But problem with data logging that we have was that the sensor was easily broken. During the experiment, each group need to use three sensors which were 2 heat sensors and 1 humidity sensor. But only one group managed to use the three sensors properly while others don’t. This because, lots of heat sensors were damaged and it cannot connect to the logger device. It also very incovinient when it comes to put the data into the computer. We got problem with that as the computer not detected our logger device.

Although data logger have some disadvantages, we think it have more advantages in heping us as a future teacher in teaching science. Thus, after we leearned it, we are going to use it well in teaching and learning process in class later.
